We recently launched our\u00a0Jeopardy rankings<\/a>, which rank competitions based on how effectively they deliver key sporting narratives (e.g. title race, relegation battle etc).<\/p>\n

It is interesting\u00a0that the five most highly rated football competitions for title-race jeopardy are second divisions<\/a>.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/section>

\n

This makes sense.\u00a0 First, the best teams in a second division tend to get promoted, keeping promotion races tight each year.\u00a0 Second, resources tend to be more concentrated among the biggest clubs.\u00a0 The uneven distribution of media revenue, regular participation in UEFA competitions &\u00a0disproportionately high commercial revenues<\/a>\u00a0are all factors that afflict top divisions most.<\/p>\n

Conversely, WSL makes an appearance in our top 10, reflecting a new-found competitiveness between teams who have invested significantly in performance.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/section>

For superstar quality, it\u2019s hard to ignore Europe\u2019s top divisions, which boast the vast majority of the world\u2019s best players.\u00a0 But for sheer excitement, tuning into second tier competitions will rarely disappoint.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/section>
